No GTA 5 official release date yet

Written by David Stellmack

Rockstar making substantial progress

Take-Two has again weighed in on a number of sources that claim the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series, or GTA V, will be released during the first quarter of 2013. Rockstar is making “substantial progress” on the title, but the release date is still TBA. The company again claimed during its earnings call that it can’t confirm a release date that it has not even announced.

When pushed, the publisher didn’t budge on a release plan other than to say that it is still to be determined. Because of the caginess over the release date, many are starting to think that it is possible that Rockstar may skip the current generation of consoles and release on the new consoles instead; but that does not seem logical, a well-positioned analyst told us. “It will come in early 2013 would be my bet, but who knows at this point with all non-confirmation over a projected release date,” another analyst said.

We agree. Our sources seem to indicate that we will see GTA V arrive in the latter part of the first quarter of 2013, with releases on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version is likely, but difficult to say whether or not Rockstar will do a Wii U version.
