ARM VP for Marketing and Strategy Noel Hurley believes Intel still has a lot of catching up to do in the mobile processor segment.

Although the first smartphones based on Intel’s Z2460 processors are already shipping, Intel’s market share in mobile is negligible. Hurley says Intel still has a long way to go before it can catch up with ARM in terms of power efficiency.

Intel’s current crop of ultra low voltage Atoms simply does not cut it. Although the Z2460 is superior in to ARM-based chips terms of sheer performance, it can’t keep up in power consumption and power management.

Hurley was also quick to point out that Windows RT opens up a lot of opportunities for vendors who choose to stick with ARM processors.
