9-Pin dock connector to offer USB 3.0 support?

by on12 September 2012

Number of pins does coincide with USB 3.0 standard

Sources are suggesting that Apple’s move to the new 9-pin smaller dock connector could also have one additional added benefit that could be announced. Some suspect that Apple will announce that the iPhone 5 that is equipped with this new 9-pin dock connector will offer USB 3.0 support.

While some of sources say that this could be dreaming on the part of those who think it is more than just coincidence that the new 9-pin dock connect also is the same number of pins that are used in the USB 3.0 standard. The new Macs do offer USB support, so it isn’t like Apple isn’t supporting the new 5Gbps transfer speeds offered by the USB 3.0 standard.

Hard to say how accurate this rumor might be, but we will not have to wait long to find out. It would seem that the decision to move to USB 3.0 compatibility would be a good decision for Apple to cut sync times on new computers that people are buying that happen to offer USB 3.0 support.
