Samsung will release the world's first bendy mobile phones from next year in a move which will make the iPhone look as dated as using a bean tin and a length of string.
According to leading technology newspaper the Sun, the unbreakable handsets can be twisted or folded and put in your pocket. The flexible phones should be on shelves in the first half of 2013. They have been on the drawing board for years, but now it seems that Samsung is close to mass production. Samsung first revealed the designs last year had not announced a release date.
The phones use organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), which are super thin and can be attached to flexible materials such as the phones’ plastic screens. Dumping the glass screens makes the devices lighter, durable and cheaper. Crucially the flexible AMOLEDs can help Samsung phones look very different. Most smartphones look the same and offer similar functionality, the Current Bun said.
