Adblock Plus hits Android, performs as advertised

by on28 November 2012

Gets rid of pesky ads in most apps and browsers

After years of keeping our desktop browsers crap-free, Adblock Plus is now taking on annoying ads in Android apps.

Adblock Plus for Android is available for free on the Google Play store. There are no hidden costs, it doesn’t require root access and it can block ads in most apps and browsers. Of course, blocking ads on mobile devices also saves bandwidth and battery, not to mention screen real estate.

However, it’s not perfect. Non-rooted devices running Android 3.1 or later can only block ads over WiFi, while devices stuck on Android 3.0 and earlier versions require some manual configuration.

Sounds great, but we’re not sure app developers who rely on ad revenue to pay rent and buy cat food will be thrilled.
