More reasons to stay at home
Japan's $6.9 billion arcade industry has been whacked by the Wii console.
The country's arcades survived the development of earlier consoles, helped by a greater variety of machines and plentiful foot traffic in crowded cities. Some of the biggest chains are shutting many of their outlets.
While they have been declining in popularity, it has been the Wii with its games that involve jumping around. This has killed off the one important advantage arcades used to have over home devices -- being the best place to play active games such as Konami Corp's dancing hit ,Dance Dance Revolution, analysts say.
