HP officially launches Pavilion Chromebook

by on04 February 2013

14-incher with US $329.99 price tag

Leaked in detail last week, HP has now officially launched its first Chromebook, the HP Pavilion Chromebook. Coming with a bigger, 14-inch screen than other Chromebooks on the market, the new HP Pavilion Chromebook is based on the same chip as the Acer C7, Intel's Celeron 847 clocked at 1.1GHz.

With the official introduction of the HP Pavilion Chromebook, the total number of Chromebook devices now sits at four, two coming from Samsung, Chromebook and Chromebook 550, Acer's C7 Chromebook and of course, HP's new Pavilion. Until the introduction of the HP Pavilion Chromebook, these devices shared one similarity, the screen size (although the Samsung Chromebook 550 is at 12.1-inch the other two are stuck at 11.6-inch). HP decided to stir things up and go with a 14-inch 1366x768 LED-backlit screen which gave them a bit more room in the chassis to make it a mere 0.83-inch thick.

As far as the specs go, the HP Pavilion Chromebook is based on Intel's 32nm Sandy Bridge dual-core Celeron 847 processor clocked at 1.1GHz with 512KB of L2 and 2MB of L3 cache. It has a 17W TDP and features Intel HD graphics controller clocked at 350MHz with 800MHz Turbo mode. The storage is handled by a 16GB SATA SSD complemented by 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage and it also features HP's TrueVision HD webcam with integrated microphone, three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, 802.11abgn (2x2) WiFi, Bluetooth, and, of course, fresh Chrome OS.

The device weighs in at 1.8kg, which makes it one of the heaviest Chromebooks and comes with a battery that is able to keep it running for up to 4.5 hours according to the spec sheet.

The price for the HP Pavilion is set at US $329 which also makes it the most expensive Chromebook so far but a bit more workspace on that 14-inch screen might sway a customer or two from the competition.
