Google has invited a select few to a special event that takes place in San Francisco on the 24th, most likely to show off a new Nexus 7 tablet. The device is still made by Asus comes in 16GB and 32GB versions with a rumoured price of $229 for the smaller and $269 for the bigger SKU.

The small video and pictures resurfaced showing us that the new Nexus 7 has slimmed down tremendously. It still has a single USB port, power button and volume rocker and soft buttons on the screen. The resolution should go up to 1080p, but this is something to be confirmed and the back of the tablet got a rear camera with a 5-megapixel sensor. There is still a front facing 1.2-megapixel camera for all the chatting available as well as 3.5 mm headphone jack. The rear camera is placed at the left upper corner and we haven’t spotted a flash in the video.

The processor of choice is Qualcomm’s APQ 8064, last year's offer of Nexus 4 fame and not the latest-greatest Snapdragon 600 as some have suggested. The APQ 8064 ends up faster than the first generation Nexus 7 based on Nvidia’s venerable Tegra 3, but it doesn’t actually leave it in the dust. The Snapdragon 600 would have really made a huge difference, but it would probably affect the price as well.

We can only assume that the highly hyped Android 4.3 operating system and a few tweaks are on the way with it. Remember, the date is Wednesday 24 of July 2013.
