The wait is over

One of most popular browsers has finally reached its final stage. According to Mozilla, major new improvements are in speed. Firefox 3 is supposed to be seven times faster than Internet Explorer and up to four times faster than the previous version of Firefox.

There have been also many improvements in memory usage, so memory leaks are no longer considered a bonus feature. Things that fell in the category of easier to use are: better password management, a new download manager which now supports resume of downloads and improved bookmark management.

By downloading Mozilla Firefox 3 today you are helping Mozilla to set the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of downloads in a single day. The goal is to hit 1 million downloads in one day. Only downloads from the link below will count and it has been quite slow at times.

There's a map which shows how many downloads each country has done, and currently the U.S. alone has downloaded over 1 million copies of Firefox 3. Oddly enough, not a single copy has been downloaded in North Korea and we presume Kim Jong-il is using an alternative browser than Firefox, especially as just about every other remote area of the planet seems to have downloaded it at least once.

You can find more info and download Firefox 3 here.
