Nvidia officially unveils the Tegra Note tablet

by on18 September 2013

Partners to sell it for US $199

Although it has been already detailed in pictures as well as benchmarks, Nvidia has now officially unveiled its own 7-inch, Tegra 4 powered, Tegra Note tablet. The tablet, designed by Nvidia and brought to market by its own partners, embodies the Nvidia brand, from hardware and software to industrial design, accessories and network of partners.

Based around a 7-inch 1280x800 IPS display and powered by Nvidia's own Tegra 4 SoC with quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU and 72-core Geforce GPU paired up with 1GB of memory, the new Tegra Note tablet also features a rear 5-megapixel camera that uses Tegra 4 processing power and Chimera computational photography architecture revealed earlier by Nvidia. A front VGA camera for video calling is on board as well, along with front-facing HD audio stereo speakers with a unique bass-reflex port, micro-HDMI output, 16GB of storage expandable by microSD card slot, as well as a unique stylus. The rest of the specs and features include 802.11bgn WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS and Wireless Display, bucnh of sensors and micro USB port.

The stylus itself is actually designed using Nvidia DirectStylus technology that transforms a regular stylus into a responsive experience with finer point and broader stroke control. The Tegra Note tablet also features a 4100mAh battery that is enough for up to 10 hours of HD video playback, according to Nvidia.

Its precise dimensions are set at 199x119x9.6mm and it weighs 320g. According to our info, it will be shipped with pre-installed Eden to Green and ZEN Pinball THD games and access to Nvidia Tegra Zone, of course. The new Tegra Note runs on yet to be detailed stock Android OS version that will get OTA updates directly from Nvidia and will not feature any kind of Nvidia skin on top of it.

According to Nvidia, the Tegra Note will be coming to market worldwide in next couple of months and be carried by its own partners, including EVGA and PNY Technologies in North America; EVGA, Oysters and ZOTAC in Europe; Colorful, Shenzhen Homecare Technology and ZOTAC in Asia-Pacific; and XOLO in India. The price is set at US $199.

All we need now is to see some reviews to see if it actually worth US $199 but for now it looks like a decent tablet. The only trouble is that the $199 market is overcrowded already. Even the 1080p Nexus 7 is reportedly seeing limited demand. It appears that cash strapped consumers are choosing even cheaper white-box tablets in the $100 to $150 range, while those with somewhat deeper pockets are going still going for iPads, and let's not forget that the new iPad mini is coming soon.
