Google’s Computer Engine out of beta

In other news Google has products not in beta

Google, the outfit which hardly seems to take any of its products out of beta has released its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering, Google Computer Engine (GCE).

Google has dropped its pricing by 10 percent in all regions for the most popular compute instances and a whopping 60 percent in the case of persistent disk storage. So not only was the product “half baked” it was also more expensive, which seems a bit on the nose.

What is unusual about the GCE has only been in beta for about a year and it is clear that Google wants it in the shops with an official wrapper as soon as possible. Its main rival is Amazon Web Services which is pretty much able to clean Google’s clock.
