Nvidia heading for a spanking this year

Analyst warns even Intel will do better

MKM Partners semiconductor analyst Ian Ing, has delivered a poor report card to Nvidia and claims that next year even the troubled Intel will do better at least in the lucrative baseband wireless chip market.

Ing said at least Intel has a cunning plan to sort out the China TD-LTE market with a Gen2 modem in 2014 (XMM7260) which should give it good chance. While Nvidia has hit LTE milestones with AT&T and Vodaphone certification via its Icera soft-modem, it will likely target selective opportunities in visual compute intensive portables outside the US markets. This includes devices such as tablets, portable gaming, and smartphones.

However, it does not expect to target the US market due to a lack of Verizon and Sprint CDMA and generally, limit its chances of making much impact in the baseband wireless chip market.
