Gingerbread finally sputtering out

Jelly Bean and KitKat versions of the Android OS are now on 62.5 percent of all Android devices, while both Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich have started to lose share.

The December report showed that Jelly Bean and KitKat versions are on the rise and, as expected, January brings even better results for those two versions. As far as Jelly Bean is concerned, version 4.1 actually dropped by 0.4 per cent. Luckly, Jelly Bean 4.2 went from 15.4% to 16.3% and Jelly Bean 4.3 went up from 7.8% to 8.9%.

Android 4.4 KitKat also got a slight boost of 0.4% from December to January and is now on 1.8 per cent of Android devices. This is expected considering that most manufacturers are yet to release the KitKat update for their devices.

On the other hand, the share of quite old devices running ancient versions of Android such as Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the Android 4.0.3-4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich has dropped by 1.2 and 0.8 per cent, respectively.
