Zotac E-series ZBOX lineup priced in Europe

by on14 March 2014

Not exactly cheap

Zotac launched three new ZBOX rigs at CeBIT, including two new E-series boxes with quad-core Haswell chips inside. The E-series is designed with power users in mind and Zotac is even marketing the new rigs as mini PCs for gamers. Basically they look like Zotac's Steam Machine.

The EI750 is based on a Core i7 R4770R processor, while the EI730 features a core i5 4570R. Both feature Iris 5200 graphics with 128MB of eDRAM. You can check them out here

High-end Intel silicon does not come cheap and as a result the EI750 barebone is priced at €599 in Europe. The completely configured EI750 with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive is priced at €699. These are not official prices, some listings are even higher. The EI730 barebone is €499 and the Plus version is €100 more.

In addition to the pricey E-series, Zotac also introduced an AMD-based ZBOX nano. The nano AQ02 features a Richland A8-5545M APU, with four CPU cores clocked at 1.7GHz (2.7GHz Turbo) and a rather beefy HD 8510G GPU with 384 cores. The barebones version appears to be priced at €299, while the Plus version with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive costs around €380.

It is an interesting alternative to similarly priced products based on Haswell chips. The Richland ULV part can't keep up with Haswell dual-cores like the Core i3 4010U in CPU performance, but it has a somewhat speedier GPU than mid-range Intel chips, so it's a fair trade-off for consumers who plan to use it for gaming. Of course, the HD 8510G can't handle the latest titles at 1080p, but it should have no trouble dealing with somewhat older games or casual stuff people tend to play in their living rooms.
