Microsoft has gone all Columbus and insisted that the PC monitor should really be a globe and not flat at all.
Redmond boffins have unveiled a prototype PC that uses an internal projection and vision system to bring a spherical computer display to life. Punters stuck their greasy mitts all over the touch screen surface to manipulate photos, play games, spin a virtual globe, or watch 360-degree videos.
Dubbed the Sphere, it's purely a research project and Microsoft says it has no plans to flog one to the great unwashed. Apparently, it took some extra thinking to came up with advanced algorithms to translate images originally intended for a flat computer screen so that they appear properly on the rounded globe, on the fly.
