5.0-inch screen and Snapdragon 801 SoC

At a big event held in Beijing, Xiaomi has announced the successor of its quite popular Mi 3 smartphone, the new 5.0-inch Snapdragon 801 equipped Xiaomi Mi 4.

This time around, Xiaomi decided to go for the same 5.0-inch size 1920x1080 screen which now comes from Sharp/JDI OGS. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 SoC, with a quad-core 2.5GHz clocked CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, paired up with no less than 3GB of RAM. As it did with the Mi 3, Xiaomi again issues a bold statement claiming that the Mi 4 is the new fastest smartphone in the world, something that we will definitely see as soon as it appears in some reviews.

The dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi 4 are set at 139.2x68.5x8.9mm and it weighs 149 grams. It features a rather neat looking steel frame but the back is still plastic and will be available with different finish styles like wood, marble, leather, fabric, bamboo and more.

The rest of the specifications for the new Xiaomi Mi 4 include a 13-megapixel rear main camera with Sony IMX214 sensor, which is capable of shooting 4K video as well as the front 8-megapixel f/1.8 camera with wide-angle lens which should be perfect for selfies. It also features all the usual 802.11ac dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and LTE support.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 will be available in 16GB and 64GB versions, will run on Android 4.4 KitKat OS with Xiaomi's pride MIUI 6 on top of it and feature non-removable 3,080mAh battery.

In addition to the new Mi 4 smartphone, Xiaomi has also announced an affordable fitness wearable, the Mi Band, which can not only monitor your fitness activity, but also track your movements during sleep and wake you up as well as unlock your Mi smartphone in case you pair it up. The best part of the story is that it is available for a mere US $12 in China.
