Intel has made it clear that it plans to sell 40 million tablets chips in 2014 and despite the fact that we in the second half of the year, we still believe it was a bold statement.

We have spotted several very aggressively priced Intel-based tablets in recent months. An Acer tablet stands out from the rest of the pack. The Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-840FHD 16GB is selling for €199, which is not bad for an 8-inch high-def tablet with an Atom Z3745 processor.

This is roughly what Google wants for the Nexus 7 2013 these days and in many respects the Nexus is probably the cheapest brand name tablet in this segment. It comes with 1920x1200 screen, so it doesn’t ship with HD ready screen like its predecessor.

The Atom Z3745 quad-core works at 1.33GHz and the Acer slate has 2GB LPDDR3 RAM, 16GB flash storage, and a single micro USB 2.0 slot. The display is 7.9-inch 1920x1200 affair and it is a IPS panel. It ships with Android 4.4. The tablet comes with WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS as well as the microSDHC card reader. Acer definitely didn’t pinch pennies on this one.

It has a 2-megapixel camera at the front and a 5-megapixel camera at the back, which is plenty for a cheap tablet. The Acer Iconia Tab 8 comes with a 4600mAh battery and it can hit 7.5 on a single charge. The tablet measures 215x130x8.5mm and weighs 360 grams. We found the official specification and a few additional details at Acer Belgium and we learned that it comes in aluminium and white colour options.

We believe that this might be one of the best mid-range Android tablet deals in a while.
