While Nintendo’s Wii flushed down the loo

Sony has said that it has managed to flog more than 10 million units PlayStation 4 consoles.

In April, the Japanese company said it had sold over 7 million PlayStation 4 units as of April 6 and was struggling to keep up with consumer demand.

The console went on sale on November 29 in the United States, Western Europe and Latin America, around the same time that rival Microsoft Corp's Xbox One was released. Redmond managed to sell 3 million by the end of last year and 5 million to retailers worldwide up to April.

This would indicate that in this console war Sony and Microsoft has swapped positions while Nintendo is moving like pizza box on a developer’s bedroom floor.

The popularity of the PlayStation 4 comes down to several factors, of which price has been a major one. Sony's console was priced $100 cheaper than the Xbox One and prompted Microsoft to introduce a price cut this summer.
