User-created content at an end for Rockband

Harmonix pulls plug content service is no surprise

Harmonix has announced that it has pulled the plug on its Rock Band Network which was a content service that gave music creators the ability to release their music as playable Rockband tracks.

The real reason for the decision to close the Rock Band Network might be more deep rooted in the fact that the service has been the victim of number technical issues since the company moved to end DLC support last year. Since ending DLC support the company no longer could dedicate the resources necessary to operate the RBN with the kind of consistency that it deserved.

Harmonix has confirmed that the already released 2,121 songs that have already been released by the RBN will continue to be available for purchase, but they will not be accepting any new content. Harmonix has also commented that they never could have anticipated the reaction to user generated content and it will explore news ways to build user created content and communities in the feature.
