French reveal Windows 9’s new name

by on25 September 2014

You will probably be surprised

The head of Microsoft France, Alain Crozier, has publicly name the successor of Windows 8 a few days ahead of its official unveiling in an event in San Francisco on September 30.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like the Windows team have pushed the boat out when it came to naming their efforts. The successor to Windows 8 will be Windows 9. Those who bet that it would be called Windows Fruitbat, Windows Ballmer, or WinOS 9 will have lost their bets.

An archived livestream of his presentation bears witness of that statement where he can be seen (and heard) saying in French: "Last year we had Windows 8. In the next few minutes, the next few days, we'll be releasing Windows 9".

What is a little odd is that something this obvious was immediately retracted by Microsoft France which immediately surrendered to someone in Redmond and said that “Windows at this stage does not have a name as such."

That said, there has been an uncharacteristically higher than average number of Windows 9-related leaks happening over the last few weeks. U2’s Bono was unavailable for comment.
