ECS Z97I Drone board supports 14nm Broadwell

by on10 October 2014

5th generation Core in 14nm

ECS has just announced a microATX Z97-based board called Z97I-Drone and despite the odd name, one small detail caught our attention. We already reported that desktop Broadwell is coming in Socket 1150 and that it is coming in Q2 2015, but the board is available right now.

We were still surprised to see that ECS lists its Z97I-Drone with official support for Intel 22nm 4th generation processors and Intel's upcoming 14nm 5th generation CPUs. Both chips use the same socket, so with a firmware update Broadwell 14nm fifth generation Core should run fine in Drone board.

The board supports three independent displays, 5-Phase Power Design, Intel K Series unlock CPU and has a solid capacitor design to maximize component reliability. ECS MIB X is a friendly interface for overclocking, especially for gamer and works with Windows 8.1. The board supports DirectX 11.1, InTru 3D, Quick Sync Video, Clear Video HD Technology as well as HDMI 1.4a with resolution up to 1920x1200 and HDCP.

The board comes with integrated Sound Blaster Cinema2 technology, Intel Rapid Start technology, Intel Smart Response, and Smart Connect. The rear panel has 1 X Audio port (Line-in,4x Line-out, SPDIF out), 1 X RJ-45 port, 1 X HDMI port, 1 X DVI-D port, 1 X Display port, 1 X Optical S/PDIF Out port,4 X USB3.0 port(s) and 4 X USB2.0 port(s). You will find one PCI Express X16 Gen 3.0 slot and one M.2 slot for WiFi/BT and four DDR3 memory slots.

The rest of the speciation is here.
