With 6-inch QHD screen and Snapdragon 805 SoC

Although most earlier rumors turned out to be true, Google has now officially unveiled the new Motorola-made Nexus 6, a phablet with a 5.9-inch QHD 2560x1440 screen powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 SoC.

Without scheduling a launch event, Google has silently unveiled couple of devices, including the Google Nexus 6, new Nexus 9 tablet, Nexus Player Android TV box as well as the new Google Android 5.0 Lolipop OS.

As expected, the new Google Nexus 6 phablet is based around a huge 6-inch 2560x1440 QHD screen, which adds up to 496ppi of pixel density. In order to keep everything running smooth on such a screen, the Nexus 6 features Qualcomm's 32-bit Snapdragon 805 SoC, based on quad-core Krait 400 running at 2.65GHz and Adreno 420 GPU, paired up with 3GB or RAM. It will be available with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage which is, unfortunately, not expandable since it lacks a microSD card slot.

With precise dimensions set at 159.26 x 82.98 x 10.06 mm and 184g of weight, the Nexus 6 is definitely neither a small or light phablet, but with a 6-inch screen and decent specifications, we guess that it is just something that Google needed to do.

The rest of the specifications include a rear 13-megapixel f/2.0 camera based on Sony's IMX 214 sensor and dual-LED flash, which is capable of recording 4K video at 30fps, 2.1-megapixel front camera, front stereo speakers, all the standard connectivity including LTE, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and microUSB and a 3220mAh battery which will, according to Google, be enough to keep it running for a full day. The battery also has a Turbo Charging feature, which gets you up to 6 hours of use with only 15 minutes of charging, something that sounds quite impressive.

As expected, Google Nexus 6 phablet will launch with a shiny new Android 5.0 Lolipop OS. Based on a new "Material Design" language and being the first 64-bit Android OS, thanks to a new ART runtime, the Android 5.0 Lolipop will pave the way for 64-bit Android smartphones. Unfortunately, since Nexus 6 will is based on Qualcomm's 32-bit Snapdragon 805 chipset, it will not experience full 64-bit optimizations of the Android 5.0 Lolipop.

According to Google, pre-orders for the Nexus 6 will kick off on October 29th while first devices should ship sometime in November. The price of an unlocked, SIM-free, 32GB version of the Nexus 6 in Midnight Blue or Cloud White color is set at US $649. Earlier rumors suggest that in Europe, Google Nexus 6 could hit retail with a price set at €569 for the 32GB version and €649 for the 64GB one. Quite pricey for a Nexus.
