Apple to launch iPad Air 2 iPad mini 3 today

by on16 October 2014

Names confirmed in internal leak

It looks like we know the names of two upcoming iPads and Apple itself confirmed them in a leak. It looks like Apple will call the smaller tablet iPad mini 3, while the larger one will end up branded as the iPad Air 2.

Previously Apple would just use the second generation suffix to the name, which sounded classier at least. The last mini also got a Retina suffix, but it appears the company found these names confusing for customers and for the current generation they chose iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2.

Both of them are expected to get 2GB of memory and the Air may end up with a beefed up A8X CPU. It is safe to assume that the graphics part is bigger than the one on the A8, but the A8X was originally rumoured as Apple's chip for the 12.9-inch iPad. There is no word on the chip inside the iPad mini 3.

Both devices have a significantly smaller bezel compared to the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display. The other notable thing is that the side switch is gone. Apple transferred this one from its phones, where it really servers its purpose, but according to the leaked manual, this switch is gone with the new iPads. In the current generation you can chose a function to mute the tablet or lock a rotation.

We don’t expect any pricing change but we will be anxious to see the official reveal of these devices and all the details that we might missed out, namely whether or not the A8X will appear in the Air 2.
