New colors, new flavors

As we
said yesterday, here, MSI is preparing a couple of new Wind SKUs which should appear in late September or early October.

Since the introduction a couple of months ago, the Wind has drawn a lot of attention, mainly because it was the first 10-inch netbook with a regular 80GB hard drive and not a tiny SSD. Its main drawback was the 3-cell battery, or should we say the unavailability of a 6-cell unit and this issue will be a thing of the past within weeks.

Apart from the new battery, MSI also decided to include a 160GB hard drive in the new SKU. This should help keep the Wind one step ahead of the competition, and only Gigabyte's M912 will be on par with the Wind in terms of storage.

We're expecting the spiced up Wind to end up just slightly pricier than the currently available SKUs with a 3-cell battery and an 80GB drive. MSI probably won't be in a rush to reveal the pricing of this new SKU, as it mainly depends on what the competition does in the next few weeks.

You're probably wondering if MSI will drop the price of the older model after the new SKU appears, and so are we. It's still too early to say, there's always a chance it will, but in the end it depends on demand and the competition.

Finally, the Wind will get an aesthetic makeover as well. It will be available in red, and an elegant piano black version will follow later on. We wouldn't be surprised if MSI rolls out a Crystal Wind as well, as the compact, purse friendly Wind is a perfect candidate for the Swarovski treatment.
