Possible overheating issue

Sony has
announced it is recalling 440,000 Vaio notebooks due to faulty wiring which could cause overheating.

Apparently the wiring connecting the main body with the screen was found to be faulty on several units, causing overheating near the power plug or screen rim, which could potentially lead to distortions on the body. In layman terms, it starts to melt.

The issue is limited to the following Vaio series: VGN-TZ100, VGN-TZ200, VGN-TZ300, VGN-TZ2000. A total of 19 Vaio TZ models manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008 are affected.

Sony's service program is voluntary, Sony is offering users of affected Vaios a free inspection and repair if necessary. You can check if your Vaio is affected at http://esupport.sony.com/fixmypc.
