Some Samsung Blu-ray players to offer support

The devices that allow Netflix subscribers to stream content received another major boost today when Netflix announced that Samsung would join LG, Roku, and Microsoft as partners that would be offering the Netflix streaming service.

While Roku offers streaming using a set top box and Microsoft will be adding Netflix streaming to the Xbox 360 in their next update, the LG and Samsung offer delivery of the Netflix streaming through various Blu-ray players, which could be described as a value added feature.

Although some customers still seem to struggle with the acceptance of streaming as a delivery format, it does seem that more people are interested in this as an option. For Netflix, it does represent the ability to build a long-term brand and customer relationship that is based on the use of streaming, rather than an optical disc format.

While the jury is still out on how many people will take advantage of the Netflix streaming options, we do think that it is an interesting direction for the company to take; and the decision to get it as an option into the Xbox 360 could speed the adoption rate and customer acceptance of this technology that Netflix is offering.
