Obama Antichrist, Palin's bikini, McCain's wives, Biden's hair plugs

These are
the joys of democracy, vox populi brought to you by that small Google search box in Firefox.

Let's see what are the folks really looking for when electing the most powerful man (or woman) in the world. Surely, they'll be looking at their voting record, education, personal history, moral views and other issues which may or may not (dis)qualify someone from office. Well, not really. In fact, the top ten suggestions end up as hilarious as if they were cooked up by Letterman's writing staff.

Let's start with that one from Illinois, Barack Obama; well spoken, well educated, well dressed, young and ambitious. So, what did people really want to learn about him? Well, the top two searches are his biography and birth certificate. So far so good. The third suggestion reads "Barack Obama antichrist". Not good, I guess. Suggestions number 8 and 9 are "Barack Obama religion" and "Barack Obama Muslim," respectively.

Moving on to his Republican counterpart, Senator John McCain of Arizona. All-American war hero, legislative maverick, one of the most experienced lawmakers in the Senate, an old school Republican who enjoys huge respect in both parties. Number one, his biography. Number two, his first wife, followed by his second wife. Than we move on to his age and "John McCain affair" at 7. Actually, McCain voters seem to be looking at the right stuff, apart from his wives. It must be noted that he's still better off in the spouse department than Republican candidate hopefuls, such as Jack Thompson or Rudi Giuliani.

Democratic VP candidate, Joe Biden? Well, when you start typing his name, the first suggestion offered by Google is Joe The Plumber. Not a great start. The first suggestion for Biden is a search about his wife, followed by his family and his personal tragedy. Number 4 is Joe Biden gaffes, while at number 7 you can find out all you ever wanted to know about his hair plugs.

Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, seems to be be getting a rather rough ride. Top suggestion is "Sarah Palin SNL", followed by "Sarah Palin Katie Couric" and again "Sarah Palin Saturday Night Live." Maybe the folks were just looking for Tina Fey? Or thought that Tina Fey actually was Sarah Palin? At least Palin has some things going for her, primarily her good looks. Ranked number five, search suggestion "Sarah Palin bikini", followed in 6 by "Sarah Palin pictures" and in 9th place "Sarah Palin photos." Number 10, her trademark glasses.

It's really reassuring to see that the most powerful people in the U.S. executive branch will be elected based on merit, and that trivial issues really don't matter in the big scheme of things.
