10 million Wiis in America

Toymaker Nintendo
claims it has smashed console sales records in the States, selling a total of 10.17 million Wiis and 9.95 million units of it DS handheld system over the past year.

The Wii currently accounts for 55 percent of next gen game consoles sold in the U.S., while the DS has a 72 percent market share as far as mobile systems go.

Microsoft still claims its Xbox 360 is the best selling next generation console, which is true in total sales, but as it was launched a year before Nintendo's Wii, its yearly sales are a bit lower.
