Unlikely it will be called BlackBerry Niagara

Our sources tell us that the RIM is getting closer to release of the BlackBerry 9630 which has been known as codename Niagara. The time has come for the company to figure out what they will be calling the latest member of the BlackBerry family.

Unlike the Storm, which received its name due a combination of the codename combined with feedback from customers, we are doubtful that the 9630 will be called the BlackBerry Niagara. At first, our sources indicated that RIM was considering making the 9630 a member of the Curve family, but it seems now, our sources tell us, that the new family name could be the BlackBerry Tour.

While early feedback is bit lukewarm for branding the 9630 as the Tour around here, it seems that it is strongly being considered. Branding is everything and while calling it the Tour does offer some good marketing possibilities, we are just not sold that this might be the best choice for the latest BlackBerry addition.

No matter what they launch the 9630 as; we still think it will be a popular choice once released. When you consider all of the possible names that RIM could give the 9630 it just does not seem that ‘Tour’ would be among one of the first that we would come up with. It still might be a question of whether or not the carriers like the name.
