HP enforces power capping

    The latest wave of features for the HP ProLiant and BladeSystem x86 servers include some fairly tough power capping tools. The idea is to push HP gear to data center administrators who are struggly to keep their heat and power bills lower.


Both power capping and new collaborative remote management capabilities are being added to HP Insight Control, the unified infrastructure management portfolio for HP x86 servers.

According to echannelline.com the new tools will appear on HP Insight Power Manager which is a component of HP Insight Control.
By using the tool, HP claims that customers can increase server density by up to 70 per cent through a greater control of power usage in the data centre.

So far, HP's power capping is restricted to its x86 servers that are based on the year old Intel Woodcrest microprocessor.
