Mama they took my Kodachrome away
Kodak
has decided that its Kodachrome has been out evolved by digital and it is
killing the manufacture of the iconic film.
Sales of Kodachrome represent
less than one percent of Kodak's total sales of still-picture film and that
it would stop making it this year. The film was launched in 1935, becoming
one of the most successful colour films of all time, known for its rich
colours and durability. It is still regarded by photographers as the
best.
But sales have fallen
dramatically, Kodak said, with the advent of digital imaging technology and
even traditional film has gone high tech. Paul Simon who sang about the joys
of the film in his 1973 hit Kodachrome must be really gutted.
"Mama don't
take my Kodachrome away...” well it was his mother at least. The film will be
processed until next year.
