Optical Touch works like a charm
Our old friend Lars checked out Albatron's recently announced
42-inch Optical Touch Monitor (or OTM), and the new touch tech seems to
be working like a charm.
Unlike classic touchscreens, OTM uses a couple of CMOS cameras
installed in both top corners of the screen and reflectors at the
bottom. In English, the cameras figure out where your finger is before
you even touch the screen. Also, you don't have to use your fingers at
all, so smudging should not be a problem if you've got a pencil handy.
However, the best thing about the new technology is its rather low
price. Basically, costs don't increase significantly if you install it
on massive screens, which is not the case with other touch
technologies. Albatron is selling a 21.5-inch full HD screen for just
over €300 or $450 in select markets.
Anyway, you can check out the video
here, just don't tell Lars we told you about it.
