More than 55,000 people have filed claims in the Iowa class-action lawsuit against Microsoft.Microsoft lost the lawsuit which was filed in Polk County District Court in 2000 and claimed the company engaged in illegal monopolization and anticompetitive conduct between 1994 and 2006.
According to the Times Republican, 28,922 Iowans have filed by mail and 26,386 have filed on the Internet for compensation.
580 businesses with multiple licenses for software and 14 government agencies have also applied.
Customers can claim $16 for each copy of Microsoft Windows or MS-DOS. Microsoft Excel is worth $25 a copy, and Microsoft Office is worth $29.
For Word, Works and Home Essential software, consumers can claim $10 a copy, according to the agreement.
