Z for Zalman

MSI has launched a new 8800 GT card, the NX8800GT Zilent, with Zalman's VF1000 graphics card cooler. However, it seems that MSI is using a lower-cost version with aluminium fins, instead of the copper fins found on the retail version of this cooler.

There is no mention of actual clock speeds in the press release, and the product had not been added to MSI's graphics card product page at the time of this writing. The only thing mentioned is that the card comes with overclocked Shaders, but doesn't state as to what speed.

MSI did some very strange thermal testing on the card, as well.  Although it is general practice to stress test these cards in a high temperature enviroment, we're not quite sure why MSI could not publish figures in a more normal home enviroment. We mention this due to the fact that no one has an ambient temperature of 45 degrees C at their home. At any rate, the Zalman cooler should lower the temperature of the card by about nine degrees C and the noise level should be reduced by as much as 20 dBA.

This has been done by sacrificing the card's slingle slot cooler, since the Zalman VF1000 takes up too much space to allow it to fit in a single slot. It also seems to be in the way of the SLI connector, if you look at the picture below.
