Won't hit retail until May

DailyTech is reporting that Nvidia has yet again delayed the launch of Hybrid SLI, and the company has sent a message to its board partners telling them that they won't have samples until the second half of April.

Part of Nvidia's message to it partners reads, "We are still experiencing delays in getting the kits sent as the product is experiencing delays, drivers are being fine-tuned and sales tools are being finalized." It seems like it's harder than Nvidia thought to get its IGPs to talk to its graphics cards.

Hybrid SLI works very different from AMD's Hybrid CrossFire, as AMD uses the IGP to boost the performance of its graphics cards, while Hybrid SLI uses the IGP both to boost the performance, but also to save power, as the graphics card can be more or less disabled in Windows and the IGP takes over.

Our guess is that Nvidia has run into some issues when it comes to getting the graphics card up and running again, or possibly to power it down properly without causing any system instabilities. Time will tell how well Hybrid SLI works, but for now, it looks like AMD's Hybrid CrossFire is the better solution even though it might not save as much power.
