Four heatpipes and GDDR4 memory

Sapphire has officially announced its HD 3870 Ultimate edition passively cooled card, the one that we managed to get a picture of, back in January during CES in Las Vegas. Unlike the HD 3850 Ultimate, which only has two heatpipes, this one comes with four of them, connecting the GPU block to the large heatsink located on the back of the card.

Another interesting thing is that this card will use 512MB of GDDR4 memory, clocked at 1125MHz (2.25Ghz effectively). The core ended up clocked at reference 775MHz, which is not that strange if you consider that its cooler produces zero decibels of noise. With a decent airflow this card could even have some overclocking potential due to the size of the heatsink.

As every other HD 3870 on the market, this one also supports DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1. The card is currently available with the price tag of €163.15. You can find it listed here.
