Joint venture cranks up

Samsung and Sony have started shipping panels for large-sized flat screen televisions from their new joint production line.

S-LCD will make 46 inches and 52 inch panels.

The new facility can make some of the largest glass sheets used to make screens for flat screen televisions. Some measure 2,200 88 inches by 100 inches, although there are no TV models that size yet.

A spokesman said that that S-LCD aims to make LCD TVs in the 50-inch class although the first panels shipped were 52-inch ones.
