There is no place like Gnome

Open Source desktop environment, GNOME 2.20 has been officially released with several improvements to power management, Evince, Totem and note-taking application Tomboy.

There appear to be some attempts to streamline GNOME's configuration utilities.

A press release from the Gnome people said that the release coincides with the tenth anniversary of GNOME's existence.

Gnome is the default environment in popular Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora.
