1,400 Staples stores will have products

Dell, Inc.
has announced that it will begin selling PCs, monitors, printers and ink supplies in 1,400 Staples Inc. retail stores in the U.S., starting in November. The Dell-Staples agreement also includes sales on Staples’ Web site.  This represents a creative move by Dell to adapt to the competitive hardware market space.

Dell started selling PCs in retail through Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in North America in June of this year, and Dell has since entered into agreements with other retailers globally, including the U.K., Japan and China.

Dell was started by its founder, Michael Dell, during his college years in 1984 in his dormitory room.  Dell became the world’s largest computer manufacturer by selling directly to consumers and business by its Web site and by telephone.  The number one standing was lost to Hewlett-Packard, which has been selling its laptop PCs in retail stores (including Wal-Mart and Staples) at a much faster rate.
