Sony will release the BWU200S Blu-ray burner on November 1st, which will enable Blu-ray and DVD discs to be burned, and it will also play movies.
Unlike previous models, which had a glitch with HDCP content, this version will not have any of those problems. Sony insists that the previous versions didn’t really have a glitch, but rather that the owners didn’t have graphics cards capable of HDCP output and thus couldn’t play encrypted content on their systems.
This new model comes with some incredible burning abilities, such as the ability to burn a 50GB disc in about 45 minutes. The Blu-ray burner connects to the motherboard via SATA, fitting into one 5.25-inch bay. The software package will include PowerDVD and CyberLink BD software and will sell for about US$899.
