Too violent

U.S. child advocates are calling on parents to boycott "Manhunt 2," a video game whose characters kill and torture using implements ranging from glass and shovels to a fuse box and a toilet.

Manhunt 2 is available in retail stores tomorrow and is rated "Mature," appropriate for gamers 17 and up, for about US$28. The game, which has been banned in the U.K., is a first-person killer fantasy where gamers assume the role of a violent man escaping from an insane asylum.

James Steyer, CEO of Common Sense Media, a non-profit group that advises parents about television, movies, Internet sites and video games, has indicated that the game is highly inappropriate for children. According to the Associated Press, Steuer said it was the most senselessly violent and offensive thing he had ever watched. He said that it was so violent it actually struck him as "pornographic violence."
