Sony predicts great year
Consumer electronics boom
Sony's Stan Glasgow has rejected claims that the consumer electronics industry is headed for lean times and is predicting a great upcoming 12 months.
Analysts have been warning that the sector is suffering from intense competition, price cuts and a shaky economy. However, Glasgow, President of Sony Electronics, said that orders from retailers are strong once again this year. He said that consumers were snapping up high-definition TVs and digital and video cameras.
Notebook sales are also doing well, with shipments up by double digits, he said. He is predicting that it will be the best holiday sales season anyone has seen for the last couple of years. He thinks that much of it has to do with the analog shutdown and that customers are buying more TVs.
