Just as Intel announced that the 45nm Penryns are shipping, Alienware announced its latest addition to the Area-51 series, the almighty 45nm powered Area-51 ALX CF.

The new Area-51 ALX CF uses an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0GHz with 12MB L2 cache and it comes overclocked at 4.0GHz. The standard setup also comes with 2GB of Dual Channel DDR3 RAM working at 1,333MHz, two 160GB SATA 10,000RPM 16MB cache hard drives, dual-layer burner with LightScribe, dual high performance gigabit LAN ports, integrated 802.11n  WiFi with appropriate access point, 7.1-channel high definition audio, Logitech G15 gaming keyboard and G5 laser mouse.

As for the graphics cards, there are two, of course, and you can choose between dual 1GB GDDR4 ATI Radeon HD 2900XT in CrossFire or two brand new 512MB GDDR4 ATI Radeon HD 3870 in CrossFire. The system can be upgraded with many other options, like dual 64GB SSD drives, 4GB of RAM, additional storage drives, Creative's X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 sound card, surround sound speakers, a different keyboard and mouse and much more, but that would just take the already high price to insane levels.

And now for the cold shower: the price. In its standard setup the AlienWare Area-51 ALX CF costs US$5,499.00. That is $5 thousand, 499 dollars (plus tax). It might sound like way too much, but if you order it now it will be at your door just in time for Christmas. You can find the product page here.
