Google will not stop hate crime

It is just a search engine

Search
engine company, Google, Inc., says that it cannot be the authority to stop online hate.

At a conference with the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish group that counters anti-Semitism, Google was under pressure to do more to censor anti-Jewish hate sites. But Google's Israel Director, Meir Brand, explained that his company's free-access philosophy means it can do nothing.

He said Google was biased in favor of people's right to free expression and that Google should not become the central arbiter of what does and does not appear on the Web; this is an issue for elected governments and courts to decide.

Google removes results from its search index "only when required to by law," i.e., for example, when copyright infringement is an issue. In Germany and Austria, it does remove pro-Nazi content, which is against the law there.
