Microsoft buys Multimap
Fighting to get Google
Microsoft has bought the British online mapmaker, Multimap, as part of its attempt to give Google Earth a run for its money.
Multimap will become a separate division of Microsoft, and its code will find its way into Virtual Earth, Live Search, Windows Live and MSN products. Multimap is not well known outside of the U.K., although its technology is popular there. Multimap Chief Executive, Jeff Kelisky, said that his company's code will be built into new software applications in order to give users "...fun ways to get from point A to point B."
Microsoft has not revealed how much cash the deal cost.
