No FFXIV for Xbox 360

Can’t come to an agreement with Microsoft
Square Enix says that it is unlikely that there will be a Final Fantasy XIV for the Xbox 360 platform. Apparently, despite the best efforts of series creator Hiromichi Tanaka in talking with Microsoft the two sides could not come to an agreement.

According to what we have been told, Tanaka is claiming that the “closed” nature of the Xbox Live service is the reason that the series will not appear on the Xbox 360. Instead, FFXIV will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Windows PC platforms.

This is not the first time that MMO developers have blamed Xbox Live as the reason that their titles have not appeared on the Xbox 360 platform. While Final Fantasy XI is one of the few MMO titles on the Xbox 360 platform, our sources suggest that there are some differences between the previous release and the new Final Fantasy XIV; and those differences are apparently enough for it to be an issue.

Our sources tell us that Square Enix is still apparently talking with Microsoft, but they are less than hopeful that something will change to allow the title to be released on the Xbox 360 platform. Of course, the good news is that the two sides are still talking; but unless some sort of a compromise can be reached at the last hour, we find it unlikely that it is going to happen.
