'Family health' reasons cited


Matthew Szulik
is stepping down as the President and Chief Executive of Red Hat.

In a press release Szulik said that he is leaving for family health reasons. He will remain Chairman of the Board. Former Delta Airlines COO, James Whitehurst, has been given the nod as Szulik's replacement and will start work on January 1.

Szulik has been in the job since 1999. Szulik said that Whitehurst was a hands-on person who will be a strong cultural fit at Red Hat. He is a talented executive who has successfully led a global technology-focused organization at Delta. He also has four Linux operating systems on various PCs at home.
