Dashboard update slated for November

by on16 July 2010

As suspected for Family Center roll out
Recently, we told you that our sources have been chattering about an upcoming overhaul to the Xbox 360 dashboard, and now we can confirm that it is true and on tap for November to coincide with the launch of Microsoft’s new Xbox Live Family Plan subscription offering. The Family plan offers four Xbox Live accounts for the low price of $100 per year, but they are all tied together and can be centrally managed.

As you can guess, in order to deliver the Family Plan Microsoft has put more parental controls in place, but this is basically not a bad thing. The changes will allow for additional menu options to manage the additional Xbox Live users that are tied to the master Xbox Live Family Plan account.

Microsoft isn’t saying yet what else might be a part of the November Dashboard Update, but we suspect that Kinect Hub and ESPN’s streaming offering are likely additions for this update when it arrives. Our sources tell us that Microsoft is aiming to deliver this update just prior to the Kinect launch, which is understandable since the Kinect Hub is likely part of the update. While there is no word yet on a beta for the latest dashboard upgrade, our sources seem to expect one to be announced just prior to the actual launch of the update.
