Let it die

IBM
has said that it will not Open Source OS/2 and seems happy to let the operating system die.

In a letter from Yvonne Perkins, Vice President, Enterprise Platform Software to /OS2World Big Blue had thought about open sourcing OS/2 in the past.

“For a variety of business, technical, and legal reasons we have decided to not pursue any OS/2 open source projects,” she wrote.

Although IBM has service offerings that continue to be available for customers who need ongoing support for OS/2, she wants customers to look for alternative solutions.

The letter is here.
