Notes defectors upgrade to Outlook and Exchange

Microsoft claims that corporate users are migrating away from Lotus Notes and defecting to Microsoft Outlook and Exchange combos.

According to figures, which unfortunately come from Redmond, more than 300 large Notes users have migrated to Microsoft in the last six months. New customers named for Microsoft include Colliers International Property Consultants, Westinghouse Electric, Coinstar and Siemens.

For several years, Microsoft has offered free software to help companies and their IT consultants move employees off IBM's products. However, according to the Radicati Group, Notes use is still growing. It predicts that it is running on 101 million corporate mailboxes and that should grow to 112 million by 2011. By then, Outlook and exchange will be running on 304 million e-mail boxes.
